I spent the day at the Chicago Auto Show, and had a great time. I’m working on putting together a few posts on what I saw, but in the mean time...
Who can tell me what car I’m looking at in the picture?
Bonus round: Who can tell me the significance of the first digit of the model code/ fourth digit of the VIN, in regards to model lineage?

4S4 means Multi Purpose Vehicle built in Indiana. W is Tribeca

The engine code is fa24 which I believe was just introduced for the ascent.

Ascent is correct!
Are you guys getting the Ascent? I believe you got the Tribeca there, at least in some capacity.

Correct! I was curious what chassis code the new Ascent would get; I find it neat that it is keeping the “W” as the Tribeca had. I’m probably one of the few that finds that interesting...

Yes! The significance of the “W” in the Vin is relating to the chassis code. The first digit of the chassis code identifies the vehicle family, as it were. The most famous ones are probably the GC and GD Impreza, where “G” identifies the Impreza. “W” was used by the Tribeca previously, which this is a direct replacement.
